“I put it to you Greg”

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 3:54 pm

In the immortalized movie of, circa 1979, “Animal House”, with the greatness of John Belushi (SNL–eternity) came a great quote, “I put it to you Greg...”  On this day after we all found out who the “party of NO really is…, after an earthquake that rocked Santiago, Chile, 8.8 on the Richter scale, we here at home were rocked by another earthquake that is far more subtle and devious, and I would like to set it up with some quotes by some from good friends of mine– Nicole Kidman, Mathew Broderick, and Christopher Walken…in a little known film that pretty much tells the truth of what the heck is going on in this little, childish country of ours… I wish to offer a play of sorts, scary as it may be… The title is “Stepford Wives”... I hope you enjoy all of the parallels that I have found within the brainwashing of the American public and the folly therein.  Christopher Walken  starts, “Some guys ask how we do it…in layman’s terms…it’s really pretty simple, come on along…”   And I quote, “First, we take a gloomy dissatisfied woman, then in a very private experience between husband and wife, he gently places her in our “female improvement system” (FOX NEWS), it’s fully automated and then “ABRACADABRA”, the transformation begins.  First, we locate her brain, we insert a few nano chips, then we program.  Also we add some special ingredients (visions of sugar and spice and nice fill the movie screen), to avoid any accidents, the husband (the republican white minority party), is kept at a distance…safety first (via “W”), finally enhance her to fit the ideal stepford wife specifications…and WALA…everything is copacetic… welcome to the future!  Stepford Wives–She’s gonna love it (You betcha!)”  Fast forward to a Stepford 2012 and the upcoming election of Sarah Palin to the office of the President of the United States of America, (brought to you by Diet Coke, Exxon Mobile, Verizon Wireless and Doritos, because you just can’t get enough of cheesy crap from Stephen (with an F), Colbert), and after a sell out welcome from the man with an ego the size of his “work out pal” Rush Limbaugh, Sarah begins her verbal assault on America, the world, and goodness of the Universe in general– “Good evening everyone, what a delight to see all of our wonderful wives (the frightened American public) and their happy, happy husbands (Wall Street, the Insurance cartel, big oil, big coal, and any other unenlightened corporation)…tonight is truly the highlight of our year, because tonight we honor our very newest citizens to Stepford (the recent Fox news victims) and in my opinion, they are the “cream of the crop”, “in couple”, (a Madison Avenue wet dream), and proudly proclaim–Stepford Way of Love…The American Way of Love”………and then a miracle happens, Sarah Palin begins to quote the late great John Denver, who sang a long beautiful song that we would all hope for all of our brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, nieces and nephews, and even, cats and dogs… “to ever be gentle, to always be strong, to walk in the wonder, to live in the song… I see them dancing, somewhere in the moonlight, somewhere in Alaska, somewhere in the sun, I hear them singing, a song for all lovers, a song for the two hearts, beating only as one…imagine the morning, no longer alone, the arms of another, a place to belong, no longer the struggle, no longer the night, and ever becoming, in the quickening light, to see the darkness, to listen within, to answer in kindness, to ever begin, to ever be gentle, to always to be strong, to walk in the wonder, to live in the song, in a place of enchantment, where the wild things are known, will the future remember when the lovers are gone?  Thank you John.  Peace~ M

Dowses Light

On this very windy day here on Cape Cod and the Islands, with gusts expected to be 60 m.p.h., I wish you a fond and fair hello…  The big, “health care debate” will happen on everyone’s watch tonight and I pray to God Fox news airs the whole thing.  Watching last night’s show, one of the only shows worth watching on television, “Countdown, with Keith Olberman”, on MSNBC every night at 8 p.m., check your local listings, was the man who needs no introduction, Keith Olberman.  Speaking on behalf of his eloquent “special comments”, now micro fitted to the five year old mentality that exists in this country, Keith exposed his own life and struggle with health care especially in regard to his father and mother.  I will not reiterate his dear words, save this, Keith Olberman represents everything that is right and good about this country and world.  I have heard his words about his father.  I know how much I love my own father.  I know the pain that comes when someone is sick and there is nothing in GOD’S GREEN EARTH that one can do to alleviate that hurt.  However, there is something rotten in Denmark when the “cartel de insurance”, excuse the french irony, places colored paper above people– real live human beings who have mothers and daughters, sisters and brothers, fathers and sons, cousins and second cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues.  We all have people that we care about, no?  Even, I would hazard a guess, the leaders of the “party of NO”…  On this day, the  25th day in the month of February, ask yourself this question, would you deny the gift of life to Jesus?  Have a nice Thursday and to Keith Olberman and his father, may you both be at peace and filled with eternal LOVE>  Peace~ M

New Dawn

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:57 am

On a very early morning down at Dowses Beach, here in Osterville, Massachusetts, I bid you a fair adieu.  The weather is turning stormy within a few hours on the Cape and Islands, with snow, sleet and rain expected in the region for the next few days.  With the upcoming health care forum on the 25th, taking place at the White House, I thought you might like to see the Light before the waters of Washington D.C. become even muddier than they already are.  Let’s be clear about a few things regarding this “summit”… First, the “party of NO” only agreed to meet with President Obama because to not do so would hurt their chances in the upcoming fall elections.  There is no desire to accomplish anything regarding substantial health care reform because the “party of NO” does not care about the masses, they only pretend to care during campaigns that will now be funded by shadow corporate sponsorships.  The “big government” that they are so opposed to and that their “grandchildren” will be victimized by, is a shell game designed to confuse the electorate, fueled by their anger, harnessed by the GOP, and if successful, will create an even bigger government that has nothing to do with health and human services, food programs or education, music and the arts…no, this new government will be designed to keep true government agency heroes at bay.  Such as the CFTC, Commodities Futures Trade Commission, a little known entity that brought to light the culprit of the financial meltdown of 2008 way back in 1999 when Brooksley Born, the commissioner of the CFTC, went toe-to-toe with the big guys at the time, Alan Greenspan (Fed Chairman), Mr. Ruben (CEO of Goldman Sachs) and the pit bull of the group and current Cabinet member Larry Summers.  Born called out the corruption that was occurring on Wall Street, via, the then, little known financial instruments known as derivatives.  LTCM, a hedge fund for all intents and purposes, was going under in 1999 and the banks bailed the company out to the tune of 3 billion dollars.  This was the writing on the wall, so to speak.  What Born did not know at that time, was the ferocity that these titans of industry would wield and it was not long before they shut her “nosiness” down.  Even now, we have made NO progress in regulating these practices on Wall Street and with the now limitless amount of monies that will pour into Washington campaign coffers (thanks to the true nature of Supreme Court Justice John Roberts), it seems the likelihood of bank reform in Washington D.C., much like the health care issue, will fall by the wayside.  The corruption in our nation’s Capitol is unprecedented, secretive, bought and paid for…  The only one who can save us now is Superman!  All kidding aside, it will take an act of providence to take back our democracy from the wolves.  Strike that analogy… Wolves are a far superior being than the men of Wall Street.  Have a nice Tuesday folks!  Peace~ M

Rogue Wave

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:06 am

As the wave of dissent and discouragement arrives at the beaches of the health care debate in the United States of America this week, specifically on the 25th of this month, we all await the proposals that the “party of NO” will unleash upon it’s unsuspecting victims.  For after all, this is an illusion being promoted by a party that does not want smaller, more effective government, but a large military/corporate industrial complex designed to keep the masses down and inflate the broken system that rewards the richest one percent in a nation that was founded on principals that have been destroyed by the wave of special interests–namely the almighty dollar.  As I delve into this week’s homework and research, I can assure you of one thing–it would be funny if it were not so sad…  Have a wonderful week anyway!  Peace~ M

Winter Gold

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:21 am

Just getting back from Nantucket Sound on a beautiful sunrise start to the day, as the sun broke through the gathering of small purple clouds suspended to the south, southeast across the open ocean.  You never get tired of sunrises on Cape Cod.   Greetings from Osterville, Massachusetts!   I thought I might send a shout out to the American athletes who are competing in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the Winter Olympics.  I had the privilege of attending the Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway way back in 1994 and I can tell you from my experience, there is nothing quite like it.   In Lillehammer, a town of only 23,000 souls, about 100 miles north of Oslo, Norway’s Capitol, an estimated 1.4 million people visited the tiny hamlet nestled in the rolling countryside of Norway.  I stayed in a farm house next to the good folks at CBS News, who were covering the event, and every day I would wake and look out of my window at the miles of nordic ski tracks that zigged and zagged across the rural landscape, acting as the infrastructure for these Nordic peoples to travel from place to place.  The large Norwegian Spruce trees were all heavy with snow, with upwards of 4 feet of the white stuff covering the fertile earth.  Flags from seemingly every nation fluttered their way down the narrow streets of Lillehammer and the energy that carried those flags was reflected in the smiles and good will of all who attended the 18 day “we are the world” love fest.  During that month there were no demonstrations, no violence, no hate…only a microcosm of the world walking, talking, eating, drinking and cheering cross country skiing, alpine events, hockey, ski jumping, figure skating, speed skating, lugeing, bobsledding and, of course, curling.  It was a spectacle that I shall never, ever forget.   The simplicity of it all, right down to the good Norwegians eating their various fish products and hard grain crackers with their families and friends on the bright white mountain sides, is what struck me the most about the 1994 Olympics.   No advertising, no loud noises (other than cow bells), and no broadcasting egos to take away from the magic of it all–this was how the Olympics were meant to be seen.  Recently, I watched the downhill run of Lindsey Vonn who, despite a hurt shin, threw herself down a treacherous mountain and won the gold! Congratulations!  Also, the enormity of Shaun White’s gravity defying snowboarding half pipe display must be noted as well.  Snowboarding being a relative newcomer to the Olympics, came of age a few days ago, with Shaun winning the gold medal, hands down, and solidifying the sport forever.   Congratulations!  What a breath of fresh air the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games have been and my best wishes go out to all of the athletes from around the world who have made it happen!   God Bless you all.  Have a nice Saturday!   Peace~ M

Morning Light

At 6 a.m. on a Friday morning here in Osterville, I bid you a fair adieu.  The weather is improving from the bitter cold we have experienced this winter here on the Cape and Islands, I’m sure you have as well, as the weather patterns shift and change faster than a republican can say no.  It is too bad that it has come down to this, a group of emotionally equivalent junior high school bullies taking over the United States of America, effectively ripping the very fabric of our great country to pieces…it is a crying shame.  Every day brings this fact closer to the consciousness of the average American citizen.  Some rabidly approving the dangerous rhetoric of the sad clowns like Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh, who make their living from the fear that they evoke from their loyal listening public, fully aware that most of their viewership will follow in lock step, not taking the time to look at say, THE FACTS.  This is a guarantee, as the fear card, used in Nazi Germany, is being played ad nauseam with the help of the Corporate milieu, armed with the latest folly from a Supreme Court decision to allow corporations to donate as much money as they wish to the candidates who will best serve their will.  I cannot emphasize this enough.  Justice John Roberts has effectively sold this country down the river, along with the people for whom this country was founded upon.  For men who speak of God on such a regular basis, they should know that their intentions will be noted in the BOOK OF LIFE.  For in the end, it is the LOVE we take via the LOVE we make…I’m not sure what book they have been reading, but I assure you it has nothing to do with the words of a man whose mortal frame met with eternal design and his message was as simple as the rain, “Do unto others as you would have done unto YOU.” So, from this moment forward, John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mitch “the mouse” McConnell and every other crooked member of Congress out there–YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING and your destiny lies within the WORD that you have misused so frequently.  I hope it was worth it!  Have a nice week end folks.  Peace~ M

Faith’s Hill

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:52 am

Just returning from Dowses Beach here in Osterville at 6 a.m. on a rather balmy morning, 32 degrees Fahrenheit with sun expected today, and I wanted to send you some Faith from “Faith Hill”.  Recently I was shocked when watching a program on the “tv” called Nova, a truly bipartisan look at the world we are living in– devoid of opinions, just the facts.  This particular show was called, “Extreme Ice”, and it gave an accurate description of what carbon dioxide is doing to our little blue rock I call earth.  “The ice is melting at an alarming pace”, might have well been the subtitle of this extraordinary vantage point from points of geological interest around the world.  Starting from the North Pole, the vast ice sheet covering the top of the world, we see just how fast (from satellite imagery) the polar ice cap is melting.  From there we visit Antarctica, where a region on the western half of the continent called Larson B, recently broke off from the mainland and disappeared into the sea.  Moving north again, we view the glaciers of Alaska and watch as the glacier called Columbia “calves” part of itself, breaking off a piece of ice three miles wide (the size of Manhatten) and releasing it into the ever hungry ocean.  Finally, moving towards Greenland, we walk out onto the Kansas like plains of ice and snow and observe the giant lakes that have formed on the surface of the country.  More to the point, we watch these massive pools of fresh water vanish into the earth without a trace.  Scientists move in to discover that the water has actually found a path down, as gravity lends a hand at forcing the water through the ice sheet itelf, creating “moulins”, water falls sending vast amounts of H20 down underneath the ice sheet and effectively acting as a lubricant, destablizing the ice sheet even more– accelerating the demise of Greenland as we know it today.  At the rate we are emmitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, these afore mentioned geographic points of interest will be “Our Waterloo”.  I find it very sad that we have a group of men in power in this country that speak of their grandchildren’s fate on one side of their mouth and on the other speak of “clean coal” and expanded off shore drilling.  Clearly these “men” are not in touch with reality.  They live in a parallel universe and are destoying OUR PLANET!  What could be more important right now in human history than to stop global warming?  What?!  Greed and Ego.  A deadly combination.  If John Boehner’s neighbor’s house was on fire, he would bring a 5 gallon jug of gasoline.  Stop the madness!  Have a nice Thursday folks.  Peace~ M

Sun Light

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:51 am

Top of the morning to you from the village of Osterville, Massachusetts!  A light dusting of snow fell on the Cape and Islands overnight and as I made my way back up East Bay Drive from Dowses Beach and Nantucket Sound, gliding on the crunching salt and snow, I thought you might like to see the light of day arising in the East.  It has been an interesting past few days in Washington D.C., with the key word being hypocrisy. The “party of NO” has risen to a new low, as Senator after Senator, Congressman after Congressman, state publicly that they oppose the “stimulus bill” that was passed by congress at the onset of President Obama’s Inauguration in January of 2009, designed primarily to keep the current “banking” system in place so that the world did not go off a cliff, all due to the irresponsible “banking principals” these crooked casino leaders practice to this day, and yet lie to their constituents as to their true motives.  The hypocrisy comes into play when these same members of Congress take the federal monies and create giant novelty checks designed for photo ops and votes.  You cannot have it both ways.  From our friend, Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell taking money, pork, for his home state of Kentucky (stating that the stimulus has created nothing in the way of jobs, then contradicting himself by saying that those federal dollars have created a boon for his economy) to James, “let’s destroy a mountain for oil shale”, Inhofe (R-OK), who has bashed the President at every turn regarding the stimulus bill and yet has taken huge amounts of money for his home state of Oklahoma.  There is an ill wind blowing in Washington D.C., or as Shakespeare said over 500 years ago, “There’s something rotten in Denmark…”  Denmark is just fine, it is the United States of America that I’m worried about.  It seems that there is a mass exodus in Washington, as the real muscle of the Supreme Court’s decision comes into full view.  That decision, perhaps this country’s downfall, that came only three weeks ago, (how quickly we forget) will spark a corporate revolution in our blessed country.  No longer will high ideals rule the day.  The game is money and lots of it.  How can the roots of grass grow, as industrialized weed killers are drenching the soil, preparing it for God knows what.  The question of integrity is a joke and these hypocrites have taken the country to a new low, a far lower place than it ever was.  Why?  How can we repeal what a compromised court, the highest court in the land, decided for our nation’s future?  All based on a faulty interpretation of the first amendment?  We all know that was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  From the haunting images of former Vice President Dick, “I’m not a war criminal”, Cheney stating on ABC’s “This Week”, that he was and is a big fan of water boarding and torture, to the glee of sick children like Fox News’ Glen Beck stating on his “television show” that someone should put a bullet in the head of captured terrorists, we see the strategists capitalizing on FEAR and they know they have the American people on the ropes.  The ropes of change, for the “party of NO”, include a country that will live under military rule, corporate rule, republican rule– all analogous and part of the “grand plan”.  There is something rotten in Denmark and it’s name is plutocracy. Keep your eyes open to the truth and WE will be there, at the turning of the tides.  Have a wonderful Wednesday!  Peace~ M

February Dunes

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:46 am

On a cool Tuesday morning here in Osterville, Massachusetts, snow flying once again on the rocks of Dowses Beach, I hope you are warm and safe wherever you may be at this moment in “time”.  There are many items of interest on the agenda this week in the world, redundant as that sounds, but we live in a time where every day is a day of history in the making.  Every day is another chance to wake up and observe the world in which we all live, and more importantly, all share.  Perhaps that is the one disconnect that the now infamous “party of NO” is failing to see clearly.  The irony is that these men of “power”, muddying the waters of change, cling to the “word of God” in their daily press conferences and truly believe that they speak for the CREATOR of this small fragile planet, as well as the Universe as a whole.  One of the central messages that Jesus himself said over 2000 years ago was simply this, “What you do to the least of me, you do unto me.”  On February 25th the White House will hold a summit in Washington D.C. to promote an open dialogue regarding a real problem in this country, health care.  Despite what you may think about providing health care to all citizens of the United States as a matter of moral consciousness and as a human right, the truth about the current system is this–we spend 1 out of every 6 dollars on health care (roughly 17 percent of our GDP) and if the current system remains in place, that number will rise to 1 out of every 3 dollars, bankrupting families around the country who are not independently wealthy.  This system is taking money from good, hard working families and giving it to CEO’s of the pyramid scheme known as health care in the United States of America.  Moreover, it is increasing our national debt, as the emergency room is now the primary care physician for most Americans below the poverty line.  This affects us all.  In California recently, a case in point, an insurance carrier named Anthem Blue Cross of California raised their premiums by a whopping 39 percent, while the company’s bottom line (profit for 2009) was 2.7 Billion dollars.  I am no math genius, but in the words of George W. Bush, “that sounds like fuzzy math to me”… This is not an isolated incident.  It is happening all over the U.S., and as the monopolies grow stronger, the rape and pillage of the American people will continue, with no end in sight.  Make no mistake about it, the sham of the “detente” in Washington on February 25th is political and the republican party will vote NO, as they know that most Americans do not understand the fine print, and will vote that way no matter what.  Why?  To gain as many seats in the upcoming 2010 elections in November as possible.  This is a calculated, manipulated, crooked, ungodly, scam the GOP is serving up to the American people and should be viewed in the light of truth for what it and they truly represent–their own interests.  “What you do to the least of me, you do unto me…”  Have a nice Tuesday!  Peace~ M

President’s Perch

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 10:07 am

On this President’s Day here in the United States of America, I bid you a fair adieu.  I just returned from Nantucket Sound on a spectacular day here on Cape Cod, the sun blazing off the ice and snow left from multiple storms that have battered the region of late.  This shot is from Chatham, a small village like Osterville, but on the “elbow” of Cape Cod about 25 miles to the east.  Looking at this seagull sitting alone, atop a pier, reminds me of what it must be like to be the President of such a large and controversial nation like the United States.  From our beginning, with a reluctant General, George Washington, who was the first to take the reigns and command an experiment designed by sophisticated men of Europe, we have fought our way out of tyranny and been blessed with one of the most diverse and wonderful nations on the planet earth.   John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were soon to replace him at the top of the power pyramid, and so the history of the new world began in earnest, with many struggles yet to come.  The 19th century brought about perhaps our greatest leader in Abraham Lincoln, whose poet like soul brought about a monumental change to this country that not even the original founders could have imagined.  From the end of the Civil War to the beginning of the 20th century and the mad rush for industrial expansion, came men like Teddy Roosevelt, whose best contribution to our nation came by way of his love for the great outdoors–the National Parks.  If it were not for Teddy, majestic places created by the last Great Ice Age, like Yosemite National Park in California, whose rocky cathedrals named “Half Dome” and “El Capitan”, rise from the lush alpine valley 3000 feet straight up into the stratosphere, would have been gated communities now, private gated communities.  As we move quickly into the later part of the 1920’s, we witnessed another test for America, the Great Depression, and how this nation was able to overcome its’ own poverty and rise again as the beloved leader it became synonymous with.  Franklin Delano Roosevelt navigated the country through it’s most difficult financial and military crisis.  Make no mistake about what FDR accomplished.  He had enemies to his right and to his left, but kept the boat steady and brought it to shore.  From the onset of the second World War, that many were hesitant to get involved with, the leadership from the Office of the President of the United States kept it’s word to the world and by 1945, the United States could breathe a sigh of relief.  But that was soon replaced by another struggle, this time faced by a young, bright man from Massachusetts, Jack Kennedy, who faced down a real nuclear threat and saved the world from complete annihilation.  President Kennedy not only served his country faithfully during World War II, where he saved many lives in the Pacific, but was a real force in the ever present struggle against intolerance, bigotry, and hate– bringing the “Civil Rights” movement to the nation’s frontal lobe.  The tragic end to his life still haunts me to this day, as I will say, unequivocally, that Mr. Jack Kennedy was our best President of modern day America.  After the insidious corruption that began to take over Washington D.C. after the election of Richard Nixon, and has become increasingly so in the last 50 years, we saw our nation begin to underestimate the power of special interests.  Watergate was a watershed moment for the country, although we did not see it so at the time.  Although the investigation ousted a corrupt President, the years of deregulation “in earnest”, beginning during the Reagan years of 1980-1988 and have continued, exponentially, to this moment in “time”,  has eroded much of the trust in our elected officials and has tarnished, ever so slightly, the office of the President of the United States of America.  The much maligned Presidency of George W. Bush, with its “conservative spending of 5 trillion dollars”, (borrowed from China) having nothing to do with our interest as a nation, a nation “Of the People, By the People and For the People,” brought about the truth of what is happening right NOW to our country as a whole.  We saw huge tax cuts for corporations and wealthy Americans, we witnessed sweet heart deals for the pharmaceutical industry, and the complete meltdown of any kind of regulation on a banking system that is now nothing more than a casino– bringing us to our collective knees in the later part of 2008.  The election of our first African-American to the office of the President, Barack Obama, has brought about hope for the change this country needs and will ultimately go through in the coming years.  The irony is not lost, however, as the avenues that our current President has are limited and constricting, with little in the way of money to work with and a filibuster problem that resembles a junior high school classroom.  Further to that point, is the second and third arm of the United States government, the Legislative and Judicial branches, that have proved their own corruption and have sealed their own fate in American history, the real American history.  It is indeed, lonely at the top and as you gaze into the eyes of the seagull, who can look at the sometimes grim picture from high above the earth, you may recognize his acknowledgement that he still needs to come down every once in a while and make some decisions on how to save this country from itself.  God Speed Mr. President and may His Guidance always be with you.  Happy President’s Day Everybody!  Peace~ M

Saint Valentine

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:06 am

Happy Valentine’s Day from Cape Cod and the Islands!  I hope you are warm and cozy wherever you are at this moment in “time” and that your day is filled with Love and Joy.  I just got back from a frozen Dowses Beach here in Osterville, Massachusetts, with a temperature of 27 degrees F.  The stars were out in full force, accented by the lack of light from the new moon.  Stunning.  Many things have been said of Love, perhaps romantic love, over the eons and I am under no delusion that I could offer anything new in the way of that most prized of all emotions.  But, to that point, is Love really an emotion or just a state of being?  The truth is that LOVE is who we really all are, deep down.  We are all part of the same stuff.  Enemies and friends alike are part of the same source, and it is in this light that I offer a sentiment of HOPE.  With all of the strife in our nation’s Capitol, it is sometimes difficult to remain unaffected by groups that couldn’t care less about the RIGHT THING TO DO.  In fact, these dangerous groups go out of their way to deceive and steal from the very good.  They do, because they can.  This is the dilemma with Love.  Agape, is a Latin word that when properly translated means– “Love thine enemies”.  I never really understood what that could possibly mean.  Why would anyone in their right mind love someone like James, “mountain”, Inhofe (R-OK)?  The true meaning is found by giving up the “hate” or anger towards someone and forgiving them in your heart.  Forgiving is simply the act of giving up control over one’s emotional direction towards someone whom you may despise, and asking a power much greater than yourself to forgive them for you.  This takes “you” out of the equation and places the responsibility of action on the shoulders of the other soul, relinquishing the negative emotion that you may have been carrying around for days, weeks or even years.  Love thine enemies is a free pass, a relief, a way out, representing perhaps the best way that you can love yourself and, at the end of the day, love one another.  Try it out for size… forgiveness and Love are the tickets to a better life and a better world.  Have a wonderful Sunday and Saint Valentine’s Day!  Peace~ M

Harbor Morning

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 5:49 am

On a very cold and early morning here in Osterville, Massachusetts, I bid you a fair adieu.  With the temperature of 23 degrees F and below freezing temperatures for quite some time now, the harbors are beginning to freeze with the possible exception of the busiest harbor on Cape Cod, Hyannis Harbor.  You may be able to make out the “Grey Lady 2″ as she steams south-southeast on her way to Nantucket, roughly 27 miles away.  Not much going on here on Cape Cod at the moment, being 4:37 a.m., but rest assured there is always something going on both here on Cape Cod proper, as well as the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.  Perhaps the best time to be here is the Winter, with the ever present dunes, harbors and hope.  Hope because of the solitude, not the absence of it.  The silence of mornings, devoid of loud, meaningless noise, are most prized and sought after here on Cape Cod.  For it is in finding those moments of silence that we find ourselves and realize that it is all worthwhile, this thing called Life, even if it may not seem so at the “time”.  Have a wonderful week end and Saturday morning…  Peace~ M

Snowbound

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 9:54 am

On a grey and white morning here in Osterville, Massachusetts, I bid you a fair adieu.  The winds were enough to knock out the power at my home, but, fortunately it was on by 2 a.m..  God bless the good folks who actually work out in the elements of change.  Washington D.C. was snow bound yesterday, as the same system that hit us a little later in the day, wreaked havoc upon the system of government, or lack therein, we are now all so fond of.  It’s like a Dickens novel, in depth and grace, grandeur and gratitude.  Every day I do my homework, I am stunned even more at the depth of ignorance, or better put, the abject hatred that human beings can exhibit in order to win or just think, in their own deluded minds, that they are right.  The funny thing is, it is not about being right.  It is about doing the RIGHT THING!  How can these men of such honorable positions that were held by far greater men than they, be so flippant about ALL OF OUR FUTURES?  Moreover, how can we just sit back and let it happen without a fight?  As CLIMATE CHANGE, that you need no computerized techno-glitter to help you see the light, (just open eyes and a clean window to look out upon), begins now in earnest, as evidenced by the most snow ever recorded (in over 120 years of record keeping) in the nation’s Capitol, we can all just sit back and listen to rhetoric of the madcap “Party of FU” and rest assured that it is all just a big hoax.  Have a blessed Thursday!  Peace~ M

The bird feeder on my back deck is full and waiting for the next storm to hit the area a little later on this morning…Cape Cod and the Islands are expecting at least 16 inches of the white stuff.  Snow in New England normally does not interrupt simple everyday activities, as we are accustomed to Nor’easters all year long and in the winter, these powerful low pressure systems can wind up and bring heavy precipitation and surf, along with winds that can reach hurricane levels.  In Washington D.C., however, snow can grind the city to a halt.  This dovetails quite nicely with the legislative process that has been stuck in neutral for the first year of President Obama’s Presidency.  The obstructionist party, led by the head clown, Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell (R-KY) and funny man John “please pass the orange juice” Boehner (R-OH), who made a statement yesterday to the world that the administration should scrap the year long work on health care reform, both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate labored at tirelessly, with the progressive leaders bending on everything from a single payer system, to the “public option”, and finally to the filibuster rule that, along with the unfortunate decision of the Supreme Court regarding the “First Amendment” and the flood gates being opened for corporate funds to corrupt the very fabric of our democracy, finally broke the camels back.  It is tragic that WE THE PEOPLE have allowed this crime to happen.  I call it a crime for that is what it is.  The Founding Fathers who drafted the enlightened document known around the world as the United States Constitution never, ever would have envisioned a world where greedy bankers, insurance companies, big oil, corporate polluters and a filibuster rule that effectively takes the legislative process out of the picture, would rule the day.  Many of the organs of the Constitution were put in place to prevent “enemies, both foreign and domestic” from destroying what men and women in World War II fought so hard for–freedom from tyranny. What are the banks and insurance companies, not to mention the power companies and big oil who rape and pillage the environment that we all share, but tyrannical monsters who care nothing about the common man?  Is this why we fought the “communists” in Vietnam, where over 55,000 Americans died?  Is this the sum of our efforts as a nation of compassion and grace?  Is this the America that we all claim to be the greatest country in the world?  For some it is.  Plutocracy is a ten dollar word like mayonnaise, a word that followers of sister sarah would likely rationalize into some talking point that was given to them via the brainwashing machine of Fox News.  The saddest part is that all of these “Tea Party People” have believed the lies promulgated by men who we don’t see.  Like the Wizard of Oz, who yells, “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain”, as he throws out wild smoke and lights designed to frighten not comfort, these weak, gutless wonders of wealth have no back bone of their own–they hire mercenaries like Black Water to “keep us safe” from terrorists while they rape and pillage their own country, all in the name of God, whom they have an exclusive relationship with.  My God, wake up America!  We might have five years left before the Polar Ice Caps melt completely, along with the ice sheets of Greenland, whereupon the seas will rise by twenty feet.  Are WE going to allow that to happen?  Make no mistake, this IS OUR COUNTRY, it is not owned by a corporation, at least not yet.  Fight for what is right and don’t blink, because they won’t.  Have a nice Wednesday!  Peace~ M

Dowses Break

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:17 am

Another dawn arises out of the darkness at Dowses Beach here in Osterville, Massachusetts.  Hallelujah!  I wasn’t sure if that would happen, as Fox News Channel’s Sarah, “the pitbull”, Palin rallied the troops at a recent “Tea Party” event this past week end.  Armed with her memory of junior high school, she employed the rarely used tactic of writing down “important stuff” to talk about on her hand in case she forgot…is that a crayon she used?  Not all of the talking points made her list, as a still frame shot of her hand revealed one idea crossed out and re-written, I believe in a deep burgundy colored crayon, with “you betcha!” highlighted as her patented send off, designed to “put her in touch with regular folks, you know real Americans…”  Her talents are undisputed in the political circles she runs in, i.e. her high school class of 1978, well, to be fair, only the members of that class that sat at the “cool table”, smoked Marlboro Reds and drank Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.  I’m sure that Sarah would like another shot at an interview with Katie Couric of the “CBS Evening News”, where she would dazzle Ms. Couric with her newly acquired deep wells of knowledge that she gleaned from periodicals like “Cosmopolitan magazine”, “NASCAR today”, “Shooting Innocent, Defenseless Animals Weekly”, and, “How to become President of the United States with the help of wealthy, crooked corporations and slimy, sadistic republican strategists, who provide insight into the fashion needed to pull of such a ridiculous notion”.  That last periodical is in the process of shortening it’s title to simply–”FU America!”.  In the immortal words of our friend Keith Olberman, of MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olberman”, who provided an interview with Sarah on last night’s show (sarah being played by his hand made up with lipstick) as her hand screamed into the camera, “help me!”.  Again, this is all due to outstanding deeds of republican strategists, like Frank Luntz, who have dumped onto the American people, when they need it the most, misinformation, check that, blatant lies dressed up as information, blasted out of a bullhorn the size of Texas, effectively brainwashing at least 50 percent of the American voting public.  The strategists know that the America of 2010 has the attention span of a five year old, with no desire to stand out from the herd and voice dissent.  They also know how to play the fear card and with real health care reform destroyed, along with bank reform, and a cart blanche for corporate campaign contributions now the law– the movement into plutocracy has never been more evident. A few men of wealth have taken this country, once a fine one, into the dark ages and it won’t be long before we have a moron at the head of the class, driving the bus off the cliff.  How could we have let this happen?  It all started in 2000 when this same court, (the court that a few weeks ago just gave the keys to the hen house to the wolf in regard to “Citizens United vs. the one hundred year old law” designed to protect democracy from corporate monopoly), gave the election to the poster boy of special interest, George W. Bush, an easily malleable piece of play dough, and thereby opened up the gates of corruption on a biblical scale.  So, if you have any ideas on cliff notes for sister sarah, please contact Dick Army or any other member of the loosely affiliated group of protestors, protesting protesting, known as the “tea party movement”, as she will need more than one hand to answer all of the problems that will be facing this country in the years to come.  You betcha!  Have a nice Tuesday folks.  Peace~ M

Sunday’s Saint

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:38 am

Washington D.C. was hit yesterday with what amounted to a record snow fall in that region, with 31 inches of the white stuff coming down around Dulles International Airport.  That storm missed us here on the Cape and Islands completely, as I was coming back from Newport, Rhode Island and Salve Regina College and it was merely a large collection of flurries… So on this Sunday morning, I hope you are safe and warm wherever you are.  On this day, America will forget the troubled system of government we currently have, all of the problems facing the nation, the ever growing concern about our environment and the general angst that the American public feels about who to believe and who is telling them lies for their own political gain.  No, today is set aside for the spectacle known as “The Superbowl”, or “Big Game” if you have not paid your royalties to the National Football League.  I have always been a big football fan, and even though it has become an iconic offering to corporate America, I still love the Superbowl.  Today, the New Orleans Saints will attempt to win their first ever Superbowl in Miami, Florida and for the people of that hurricane torn city, my best wishes are with them.  This blog has been brought to you by, Exxon Mobile, Goldman Sachs and ADM and the proceeds will go directly…oh, excuse me, just the thought of watching 8 hours of pre-game hype temporarily melted my brain.  Have a great Sunday and GO SAINTS!  Peace~ M

Deep Blue

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:00 am

The Nantucket Sound can change colors overnight, going from a light green during storms to a deep blue that resembles the Pacific on summer day…  Greetings from Cape Cod and the Islands!  I hope you are well, wherever this correspondence is reaching you.  From the looks of things in Washington D.C., the chances of getting anything passed in the Senate that might actually serve the American people, the very reason Senators and Congressman are elected into their respective offices to begin with, is melting like the polar ice caps.  Indeed, it is all connected.  The fight to keep the “status quo” rages at this moment in “time”, 6 a.m. EST, as our friends wake from a comfortable slumber at the Four Seasons or Hyatt, eat a hearty breakfast and head out into the cold of another Washington D.C. morning.  With attache cases full of fun facts, the fearless lobbyists meet with Senators like our buddy Mitch, “the mouse”, McConnell (minority leader, R), who will be more than happy to take that bribe to kill health care, bank reform, climate change, and any other bill that might impede the “progress” of the party of NO and their goal to regain as many seats in the House and Senate in the upcoming 2010 elections as possible.  Meanwhile, our other over exposed, in more ways than one, antagonist– Senator, and I use that title with humor and love, John, “orange juice”, Boehner (R, OH), will receive another large check from Morgan Stanley, the “investment bank”, whom he met with yesterday to talk about the weather.  That didn’t take long.  Ah, Washington in the winter!  I love the smell of money laundering on the Potomac.  At this juncture, whatever President Barack Obama proposes, in good faith, will be rejected and the American people will suffer.   These are the FACTS.  You can say that the sky is green all you want, it does not make it true…  People might begin, however, to think you are crazy or more to the point, just another politician steeped in the tradition of selling your soul for a pouch of gold.  Sound familiar?  Have a nice week end!  Peace~ M

Winter Morning

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:03 am

Another coating of snow fell on Cape Cod yesterday, with the temperatures staying rather cold for this time of year and another big storm expected to hit the area tomorrow…  With the never ending battle that has become the government of the United States, I thought it was appropriate to ask the question, what do the puppets that make up the republican party in Washington D.C. really want?  Cut out all of the bull____ and answer the question, because inquiring minds want to know.  As I mentioned yesterday, the fact of the matter is that republicans, “the party of NO”, want the American people to stay in the dark about everything, follow the manifesto of doom, and to NOT ASK ANY QUESTIONS.  Knowledge is something for the members of the House and Senate who have passed the “purity” test, bow to the “powers that be”, and follow a set of insane rules and talking points that serve the top 1 percent in this country.  Men, scoundrels, like Roger Ailes, a large, fat, racist pig who started his “career” as a television producer in the Nixon era, learning, even back then, how powerful a medium television really is and how it can manipulate large populations to side with, in this case Fox News, any anti-knowledge that the corporate owned entity wishes to spew forth.  Perhaps the most frightening figure that I have heard recently is 65 percent.  Fox has cornered the market on excrement, not a problem for anyone with half a brain and a pure heart, but for the rest of America, i.e. the 65 percent of Americans watching a modern day version of Colonel Clink and Stallack 13, not realizing that they are prisoners of the mind numbing lie factory that keeps them locked in a state of fear, ignorance and anger, they are wandering aimlessly through this life truly believing that this country is doomed, that they are not worthy of goodness and grace, and that they should be satisfied with a slice of Domino’s Pizza and a Bud Light for the upcoming “BIG GAME”…are you kidding me?!!!  If you were to tell someone, who truly believes with their whole being in the propaganda that Fox News spits out every day, that it was all a big fat lie and that there was a better way, you would, invariably, be met with cynicism at best, and downright hostility and violence at worst.  This was the grand plan of the strategists who are employed by corporate monsters like Exxon Mobile, Goldman Sachs and ADM.  Keep them down, beat them up, degrade them, insult their intelligence and don’t let them up for air so as to KNOW THE TRUTH!  The strategists of the right wingnut conspiracy have earned their nickel.  They have put the American public in a dark room and have sealed off the sunlight of the TRUTH.  And we have let them.  If we don’t fight for the country that we love NOW, it will be lost forever.  It is up to all of us if we wish to SAVE OUR WORLD, stop the insurance cartels, stop the banking casinos, stop the “military industrial complex”, to stop the lying, stop the lying, stop the lying…  It is up to every citizen in the United States of America to realize what is truly going on and stop for a moment and say, hey, “I don’t have to take this anymore!”  Have a great week end!  Peace~ M

Mind Set

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 8:17 am

After President Obama unveiled his 2010 budget, the true nature of the obstructionist party took hold… If you wish to understand why this country is the way it is right now, all you have to do is look at the fine print written by men, mice, like Frank Luntz.  Mr. Luntz is a far right wingnut republican strategist who makes his living by creating documents, or “talking points”, that the puppets in Washington D.C., men like James, “I’m a molehill that I pretend is a mountain”, Inhofe (R-OK), Mitch, “I’m really not a mouse”, McConnell (leader of the “minority” party), Eric “the weasel” Cantor, and John, “orange juice”, Boehner (R-OH), must adhere to– as they are simply property of the wealthiest men in this country.  These “talking” points are blatant lies meant to muddy the waters, thereby deceiving the American public as to the issues, dire issues, that are facing our country today.  Looking at an internal memo sent to said republican “leaders”, Mr. Luntz has put forth the manifesto of lies that he clearly defines by his own words, “Lie to the American people”... Folks, you cannot get any clearer than that.  As President Obama continues his self deception of believing these men of deceit will change their tune, the well oiled right wingnut machine has made a decision to oppose anything that the President tries from this moment on for pure political reasons.  Making concessions is nothing new in Washington.  However, this goes far beyond that and is infinitely more sinister.  From other mice like John, “what’s my last name?”, McCain who contradicted his own words regarding campaign finance reform, to the amnesia that the entire republican caucus has been diagnosed with in regard to who signed the 800 Billion dollar stimulus bill, designed primarily to bail out the crooked banks, a crisis that they themselves created (George Bush 2008), thereby creating a 1.2 Trillion dollar deficit that our current President is being blamed for.  Further, the debt of 5 Trillion dollars was ALL due to former President Bush’s policies abroad, as well as the tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans, the back door deals with insurance cartels, and a blind eye to the tremendous risks that Wall Street has taken with our money.  Mr. Luntz, as well as several others in the “strategy business”, have put abominations like Roger Ailes and Fox News on the front line of bull____, claiming “most trusted news” and “Fair and Balanced”, laughable I know, and created the “talking points” that no one in their lair dare question.  Anyone who has any power, be it on Capitol Hill or in the studios of deceit in New York City, will continue to stick to these machiavellian principals, creating confusion and discontent in the land we all love and cherish.  They will play on people’s fear, in fact they literally bank on it, and shamelessly call themselves patriots who will lead us all out of, as Glen Beck would say, the slaughter that Obama has planned for us all.  These “men of power” are nothing more than junior high school bullies who deserve what will surely happen to them when they meet their maker.  The mind set created by vermin, rats, like Luntz has given rise to a cancer in this country called the republican party.  And that is exactly what they are, vermin–destroying hope for men and women who simply want to feed their children, have a decent job, affordable housing, health care and a government that is “Of the People, By the People and FOR THE PEOPLE”… What part of the Constitution don’t you dummies understand?  Oh yeah, that document has already been shredded at the “house of worship” called “C street” where you can get all the talking points and tail you want and the mighty arm of the diseased right wingnut brotherhood will save you from any of those “liberal media types”…  The mind set that these creeps want the rather ignorant American electorate to swallow is one of insanity and hate, the likes of which we have not seen since the days of Hitler himself.  God Save the United States of America!  Peace~ M

Snow Dune

Filed under: Blog — Michael @ 7:50 am

On a cool start to the morning here in Osterville, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, I thought I might offer another poem written by a local artist named Mary Oliver.  Ms. Oliver won the Pulitzer prize for poetry and the National Book Award.  Not too shabby.  In the immortal words written on Bill Murray’s tee-shirt in the movie, “What about Bob”, “Don’t hassle me, I’m a local!”– the poem I’m about to present to you is called,

“Where Does the Temple Begin, Where Does It End?”

There are things you can’t reach.  But you can reach out to them, and all day long.

The wind, the bird flying away.  The idea of God.

And it can keep you as busy as anything else, and happier.

The snake slide away; the fish jumps, like a little lily, out of the water and back in; the goldfinches sing from the unreachable top of a tree.

I look; morning to night I am never done with looking.

Looking I mean not just standing around, but standing around as though with your arms wide open.

And thinking: maybe something will come, some shining coil of wind, or a few leaves from an old tree–they are all in this too.

And now I will tell you the truth.  Everything in this world comes.

At least closer.

And, cordially.

Like the nibbling, tinsel-eyed fish; the unlooping snake.  Like goldfinches, like dolls of gold

fluttering around the corner of the sky

of God, the blue air.

From the chilly air of Cape Cod and the Islands, may you have a GOOD Tuesday morning.

Peace~ M
